Georgia Dugout Club Releases 2026 Preseason Softball Top 10 Rankings
Rankings showcase the state's elite programs as opening day approaches
As the countdown to the 2026 GHSA softball season continues, the Georgia Dugout Club has officially unveiled its 2026 Preseason Top 10 Rankings across every GHSA classification. The rankings recognize programs expected to compete for region championships, deep state playoff runs, and ultimately a trip to the GHSA State Championships later this fall.
Compiled through an evaluation of returning talent, coaching continuity, recent postseason success, program tradition, and roster strength, the preseason rankings offer an early look at the teams expected to define the 2026 season.
"This is always one of our favorite projects each year," said Georgia Dugout Club President Matt East. "Every classification across Georgia is loaded with outstanding programs, and these rankings are meant to recognize the consistency and excellence that so many coaches and players have built within their programs. At the same time, we know championships aren't won in August. Every team will have an opportunity to prove themselves once the season begins."
Class 7ADefending powerhouse Buford begins the season at No. 1, followed closely by East Coweta and Carrollton, giving Class 7A one of the strongest collections of championship-caliber teams in the state. Traditional contenders North Forsyth, North Gwinnett, Brookwood, and North Cobb headline a classification loaded with depth, while Etowah, Walton, West Forsyth, and Cherokee are among the programs poised to challenge throughout the season.
Class 6AClass 6A features perhaps the deepest field from top to bottom. Creekview opens the season atop the rankings after another outstanding campaign, with Loganville, Effingham County, South Effingham, and Lassiter rounding out a formidable top five. Programs such as Greenbrier, Richmond Hill, Habersham Central, and River Ridge remain well within striking distance.
Class 5AThe 5A race appears wide open entering the season. Eastside claims the No. 1 spot ahead of perennial contenders Jefferson, Harris County, Cartersville, and Cambridge. The classification also includes proven playoff teams such as North Oconee, Marist, Central-Carroll, Wayne County, and Ola, creating one of the most balanced races in Georgia.
Class 4AAfter consistent success in recent seasons, Heritage-Catoosa opens the year as the team to beat in Class 4A. West Laurens, Harlem, North Hall, and Cherokee Bluff follow closely behind in a classification expected to feature several tightly contested region races. Teams like Chestatee, White County, and Southeast Bulloch remain capable of making significant moves during the season.
Class 3AClass 3A showcases another impressive collection of championship contenders. Sonoraville begins the season at No. 1, followed by Wesleyan, Appling County, Pierce County, and Morgan County. Programs such as Ringgold, Hebron Christian, Rockmart, and Pike County round out a competitive top ten, while Franklin County, Stephens County, Crisp County, and Toombs County look to break into the rankings.
