Meet the Defending 2024 State ChampionsEight programs hoisted trophies last fall and now begin their title defenses:
- 6A — East Coweta: The Indians reclaimed the crown and open 2025 with the target squarely on their backs. Their formula doesn’t change: elite pitching depth, crisp defense, and relentless at-bats against a demanding non-region slate. (EC’s October run through Columbus underscored how dominant frontline pitching can be in a best-of-the-best setting.)
- 5A — Creekview: Fresh off a state title, the Grizzlies aim to repeat by leaning on a balanced lineup and team speed. Expect an aggressive short game and pressure on the bases to complement a staff that throws strikes.
- 4A — Harris County: Championship experience matters. The Tigers will look to win the free-base battle (walks/HPBs vs. issued) and play clean behind their staff to stack close wins in October.
- 3A — Heritage–Catoosa: Heritage returns as a tough-minded, fundamentally sound group. The generals’ path to a repeat runs through situational hitting and late-inning execution in tight Columbus games.
- 2A — Morgan County: Pitching and run prevention powered last year’s title; repeating will hinge on efficient innings, double-play defense, and timely two-out knocks.
- A Division I — Gordon Lee: A hallmark program with championship DNA, the Trojans will again schedule big to stay battle-tested and trust their defense in the wide spaces of South Commons.
- A Division II — Emanuel County Institute (ECI): The Bulldogs’ blueprint—pound the zone and manufacture runs—translates every October. Expect more of the same in their title defense.
- Private — Wesleyan: In GHSA’s newer Private classification, the Wolves set the standard last year. A deep, disciplined lineup and reliable arms keep them in every postseason game.

- Scheduling for November. Many contenders will stack tough non-region dates in August/September to stress-test lineups and arms before bracket play.
- Small ball vs. slug. The spacious outfields at South Commons often reward pressure offense, first-to-third baserunning, and elite outfield defense.
- The Private race. With Wesleyan atop the new classification last year, rivals will calibrate their schedules and pitching rotations to close the gap.
- First practice: July 28

- Region completion/reporting: Oct. 9
- State Tournament (Rounds 1–2): Oct. 14–16 & Oct. 21–23
